Imagine: You are standing in the middle of the forest, on a bridge that leads over a steep precipice. All around you are nothing but rocks, trees and the distant sound of the sea. Right here, on the Danish island of Møn, two wonderful people from the USA said "I do" - at their unique Viking wedding in Denmark.
As a wedding photographer, I have had the privilege of accompanying many special weddings, but this was the first time I experienced a Viking wedding at the end of the world – and it left a deep impression on me.
Viking Wedding in Denmark
The atmosphere on that day was simply magical. The wedding took place in the middle of nowhere on the island of Møn. It was winter, and the mystical nature of Denmark fit perfectly with the Viking theme.
The bride and groom got married on a bridge with a breathtaking view of the rocks and the sea. All around us was forest - nothing to distract us, just nature. This wedding ceremony was one of the most emotional I have ever experienced. I had goosebumps all day.
The bride looked stunning in a black dress – yes, black! Parts of it she had designed herself.
The rain that had accompanied us all day stopped during the ceremony. Only a few drops remained, which gave the atmosphere a special magic. It felt as if nature had given its blessing.
Handfasting
The couple chose an ancient Viking ritual called handfasting . This involves binding the bride and groom's hands together while they exchange wishes and promises. This tradition is powerful, emotional and unique - a beautiful addition to the official wedding ceremony.
Wedding on the island of Møn
After the handfasting ceremony, the official part of the wedding began – the marriage ceremony.
I am always impressed by the uncomplicated bureaucracy in Denmark. For this wedding, the registrar traveled especially and held the official ceremony in the middle of the forest on the island of Møn, where she officially married the bride and groom.
In Germany, this is only possible in registry offices.

Creative Wedding Photos in Denmark
I always travel to the location the day before to prepare everything and find the best places for the couple shoot. Especially with weddings like this - in the middle of winter, with changeable weather - it is important to have a plan B.
When I arrived, I found that access to one of the most famous beaches on the island of Møn was closed. A storm surge had destroyed the stairs. Luckily, I had time to explore other places and found a deserted beach that was just perfect.
On the wedding day, after the ceremony, we used different locations. First we started in the forest and took lots of great and creative wedding photos there.
Afterwards we drove to the beach that I had discovered the day before and took one of my favorite photos there.
I love taking creative wedding photos . I used to study art and specialized in art and fashion photography. That's why it's always a pleasure for me when couples want special and creative wedding photos.
And of course we only took these unique wedding photos with the “Vikings”. “Normal” photos would not have suited the two of them or the overall atmosphere.
